It’s an almost annual tradition in the Southern Tier. This year, the Almost Annual Crappie Derby held to its name almost not happening because of last month’s warm weather. But the recent cold spell left Whitney Point Lake with 15-inches of ice - perfect conditions for the ice-fishing competition.

After a year of natural disasters that caused millions of dollars of damage to Georgia in 2009, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), its Ready Georgia campaign, the National Weather Service (NWS) and local emergency management agencies are supporting Severe Weather Awareness Week in the state, from Monday, Feb. 1, through Friday, Feb. 5.

Over 200 persons have died so far this winter due to freezing weather, according to data provided by the Government Security Centre on Tuesday. Nigh-time temperatures in some parts of Poland have dropped to minus 30 degrees Centigrade. For some time now day time temperatures range between minus 10 and minus 18 degrees Centigrade.
