Wash. cold weather creates ’sea smoke’ (Seattle Times)

Bremerton-area residents looking out over Sinclair Inlet on Wednesday morning saw wispy white clouds rising from the cold blue surface of the water. National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Burke in Seattle says the phenomenon is called sea smoke.

Local shelters are becoming increasingly crowded as people seek refuge from cold weather, officials at several homeless shelters said. As temperatures drop, more homeless people choose to take shelter indoors overnight, officials said. Several metro-area shelters were already near capacity before cold weather struck, leaving few beds for extra people during the cold winter months ahead.
